Butter in Estonia has got twice expensive since the beginning of this year

The price boost affected all food products in Estonia. However, the butter was in the forefront. It’s price rose by 44% and it was in short supply, so the price increase of it can be expected in the future.

Two factors of price growth:

- demand for cream is increasing worldwide. This is largely due to the fact that scientists have revised their attitude towards fat dairy products, noting their positive impact on health. Consumers followed this new trend, manufacturers a bit lag behind.

- during the last two years in Estonia the dairy industry was in crisis, that gave rise to low “crisis” prices. Now the demand has increased and farmers are trying to bring the profitability of milk production at a good level for them and raise prices.
