Estonian ID-cards, issued after October 2014, ceased to be valid. The government of Estonia found that the degree of vulnerability of these cards is too high. It is possible to break their basic code and steal personal data of users.

And although there was not a single case of unauthorized access to personal information of citizens, the Estonian government decided to take emergency measures to prevent possible attacks.

The government believe, that huge confidence of the country in electronic government must not be undermined. Therefore it is better to be on the safe side and spend money on improving protection of the cards. Users can upgrade certificates until March 31, 2018.
