Estonia not to exclude the closure of the Rail Baltic project
Avaldatud 05. juuni 2018.a.
Representatives of the Parliament announced the results of the report on the project of the all-Baltic railway, presented earlier this week. Many unresolved issues, including in the field of cooperation between the participating countries, can lead to the complete abandonment of the Rail Baltic project implementation.

According to the deputies of the Riigikogu, the issue of the project financing has not been finally resolved until now, since a report showing the economic profitability of the construction has not yet been formed. Rail Baltic is of a concern also among the local population, as the construction of railway tracks is planned to be carried out through the private lands. It is not clear yet, how the loss will be compensated and whether it is worth to move farmers and producers from the inhabited sites to implement the project. There is also insufficient information on safety from the environmental point of view.

It should be reminded, that the implementation of Rail Baltic involves the construction of roads of more than 700 km in length connecting the Baltic States and Western European countries. The Finnish ferries are also planned to participate in this project.
