According to the Minister of Agriculture of Latvia Janis Duklavs the ban is too strict, it should be applicable prior to addressing the causes only to those companies where inconsistencies were revealed, but not to the industry of the country completely. He addressed this issue to the European Union on the recent meeting of 28 countries of the Council of Europe.

Goods of fishing industry of Estonia and Latvia were banned since June 4, therefore the fishing industry in these countries suffered from serious losses. Two Latvian factories stopped working and paid off 80% of its employees, because almost all the products were supplied to Russia.

The Russian party considers the prohibition legally justified, because for two years Estonia and Latvia get warnings about repeated violations found in their fish products.
