On October 10 there has taken place a ceremonial taking the oath by Kersti Kaljulaid, a new head of the state, heading the Council for Development Monitoring under the parliament's office since 2016.

To win the elections, held on October 3, the only candidate should have polled not less than 68 of 101 votes of deputies. 81 members of parliament voted for Kersti Kaljulaid. Oath taking is a formal confirmation of accession of the new president to an office of the new head of the state for a term of 5 years.
