From July 1 Estonia becomes the Chair country of the Council of the European Union for half a year. Therefore, the state introduced additional security measures. From 15 June the passengers, coming from the ports of Stockholm and Helsinki to the port of Tallinn, will be required to have a passport or ID when boarding the ferry.

In addition to inspections of the documents of the passengers by the security service of shipping companies, the authorities also strengthen vigilance.

The head of security of the ship owner Tallink Grupp, Armand Simer, recommended to manage the time for arrival at the port and boarding a the ferry: ”Since the inspection by the official authorities may also be held more often, we ask the passengers, going aboard and leaving the ship, to have extra time and be responsive to possible queues".
