The Baltic States officially launched the process of transition to European standards in the energy sector
Publishedо 10 September, 2018
Estonian national operator of power transmission lines and natural gas Elering, together with similar enterprises of Lithuania and Latvia signed an agreement with the Energy Union of European countries last week. The main purpose of the agreement is synchronization of power transmission systems.

It should be noted that the Baltic networks are still included in the electric ring BRELL, formed on the basis of agreements between the former Soviet republics – Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus and Russia. The transition to European power grid standards will require significant investments not only from the Baltic States at the governmental level, but also from the European Union. The signed agreement covers the allocation and reimbursement of costs. The total percentage of investments from Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia will reach 75%. The synchronization project should be completed by 2025.
