Russia is looking for entry to the Estonian energy market
Publishedо 30 July, 2019
Recently representatives of the Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation proposed to create a special Commission with the participation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to discuss the issue of free access of Russian electricity to the Baltic market.

At the moment Estonia is trying to get out of the energy ring, linking several former Soviet republics and Russia. Substations based on renewable energy sources are being actively built, and a new 330 kV Kilingi-Nome distribution unit will be put into operation in the autumn. However, experts note that it is impossible to find an alternative to cheap electricity from the Russian Federation at the moment, and the European power supply system will not be able to ensure uninterrupted operation in case of an accident.
