The European Union will help Estonia to modernize the railway network as part of the development of the Trans-European transport network. The European investment Bank has agreed to allocate a loan of 95 million euros to the Estonian national operator Eesti Raudtee.

Optimization of transportation processes, implementation of digital management methods and technical re-equipment of the railway are especially important now, when the economy of Estonia, as well as the majority of EU members, is experiencing a severe crisis against the background of the covid-19 pandemic. According to statistics in April this year, the country's industrial production fell to the level of 2000.
