ID cards problem still exists
Publishedо 4 April, 2018
According to representatives of the Estonian government, the issue of ID cards replacement has not yet been resolved completely, with losses already exceeded 3.5 million euros.

Last autumn, the Department of state information systems RIA announced the suspension of the electronic document action, as in their security system a serious vulnerability was discovered – a wide array of personal data of Estonian citizens could easily be stolen by attackers. The government has launched a program of mass renewal of ID-cards, including certificates for the use of electronic personal accounts.

At present almost half of the total volume of vulnerable documents is still not updated, and the final amount of losses of state structures can significantly increase when the private companies contact the departments with issues of defects elimination in the system.
