East-West corridor stimulates transportation in Estonia
Publishedо 18 September, 2018
The state company Estonian Railways (Elron), the largest operator of commuter and diesel trains in Estonia, reported an increase in freight traffic by almost 15% compared to last year.
During the first eight months, more than 9 million tons of cargo were delivered, most of them were agricultural fertilizers, mineral fuels, lubricating oils and shale oil. Experts note that more than half of the total traffic is transit traffic. The growth in this direction is associated with the active development of the East-West transport corridor and the influx of Chinese container trains. Elron management hopes to increase the figures to 15 million tons by the end of 2018.
