Estonia invests more than 400 million euros in railways

Last week the Ministry of economy and infrastructure of Estonia published the approved plans for the development of the railway industry of the country. In the next 6 years, it is planned to invest more than 400 million euros in the railway net.
The state plans to significantly upgrade the areas of passenger traffic, increasing the speed of trains, and pay special attention to the organization and equipment of crossings to improve safety. In addition, it is planned to significantly reconstruct and overhaul the railways used for cargo transportation. The investment will be used to upgrade the traffic management system, power generation and conversion points for electric locomotives. Representatives of the Ministry hope that the attracted funding will allow to achieve an increase in the volume of rail freight by more than 5% per year.
The main volume of investments will come from the state budget, more than 50 million euros will be provided by the European Union Fund for pan-European infrastructure investments in transport, energy and digital projects.
