Estonian pork export to non-EUcountrieswill be prohibited

The sudden outbreak of African swine fever on July 18 on farms of Valagaskiy and Vilyandiskiy districts in Estonia has resulted in quarantine regime in a number of farms, where the number of the largest of which is 131 species. Large livestock facilities such as the production departments of Finnish companies HKScan and Atria Eesti has not yet been put under quarantine, but the boundaries of the quarantine zone has not yet been definitively established.
In connection with the quarantine situation pork export from Estonia to the EU countries may be prohibited, and financial losses will be beard not only by Estonian companies, but also foreign companies with production in the quarantine areas.
Whether the government meeting will be convened on pork export restriction, or a decision will be taken by a decree is not yet known. However, non-EUcountries engaged in the exportof pork from Estonia, may decide to ban the import of pork products on their own, without waiting for the decision of the Estonian authorities.
