Decline in cargo turnover in the Baltic countries

According to the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, cargo turnover in the Baltic countries decreased by 5.7% as compared with the same period in 2014. 

Having analyzed statistics for 8 months of this year, experts named the following figures: growth of cargo turnover rates was recorded only in the Lithuanian ports, it was 6.7%. The Estonian ports cargo turnover decreased by 18.6% and in Latvia by 5.1%. In 2014, the cargo turnover in the Baltic ports amounted to 161.44 million tons, most of which was in the Latvian ports (45.9%), the rest amount was almost equally shared by the Lithuanian and Estonian ports (27% and 27.1%). 

As for particular ports, the best performance demonstrated the port of Riga - in the last months of 2015 there were 26.664 million tons of cargo (0.3% more than in the previous year). It is followed by the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda - 23.268 million tonnes (figures have improved by 9%), and the three leaders are closedby the Latvian port of Ventspils with 18,952,000 tons (figures deteriorated by 13.5%).
